Joseph DeGennaro, Sr. began his career in the profession of barbering at the age of 15 as an apprentice barber in Altoona, PA.  He served three years in this capacity and passed his state boards the same year he graduated from high school in 1961.  At the age of 18, he was the youngest barber in Pennsylvania.

He purchased the two-chair salon where he was employed in 1968 and the name "Razor's Edge" was born.  Mr. DeGennaro moved his business to Greenwood in 1970.  Before long he out grew this facility and, in 1975, moved to this present location,  In 1981, the Greenwood location was further expanded and remodeled.

To satisfy his many clients from the southern end of Blair County, Mr. DeGennaro opened a second Razor's Edge on Blair Street in Hollidaysburg in 1984.  In 1988, he purchased a home on N. Juniata Street and converted this one hundred year-old home into a modern up-scale salon.

In 1997, Mr. DeGennaro decided to totally renovate the Razor's Edge in Greenwood and it is considered the most modern full-service salon in Blair County!

Mr. DeGennaro completed many hours of advanced training from national and international acclaimed hair designers in New York, Atlanta, New Orleans, Cleveland, Pittsburgh, Florida and Philadelphia.  Among many awards he has won are: 1978 PA State Hairstyling Champion; 1980 First Runner-Up in the PA State Hairstyling Competition; Member of the 1980 Olympic International Team Competition in Atlanta, Georgia; 1982 Blue Ribbon National Award for New Man Hair Replacement; and countless other awards for excellence in retail sales in men's and ladies' hair designing.  He is past president of A.M.B.B.A. Chapter 1376 and is Educator-Demonstrator for this professional organization.

In 1997, the Razor's Edge was voted the #1 salon in Blair County by the Altoona Mirror's Peoples Choice Awards.

The Razor's Edge has raised thousands of dollars for Easter Seals with its fashion shows, Cutting Carnival, and back to school Cut-a-Thons.

The Razor's Edge is recognized as a leader in men's, ladies' and children's hairstyling and is the most modern full-service salon in the area.

In 2008 The Blair County Chamber of Commerce honored Joe as the Small Businessman of the Year.

In 2011, The Razor’s Edge was awarded Excellence in Small Business during the annual Chamber Hall of Fame Awards event.
